Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI) announced Rajkot and Pune as two new (IPL) Indian Premier League franchises for the next two seasons. Their new owner of Rajkot team is mobile phone manufacturer Intex and for Pune New Rising will be the owner. Pune and Rajkot have been picked as the bases for the two new Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises for the next two years. Sanjeev Goenka, the chairman of the RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group, has bought the Pune-based franchise while Intex mobile snap up the Rajkot-based team. Rajkot & Pune New Teams In Indian Premier League (IPL)
Intex will be paying Rs 10 crores for the Rajkot franchise. Sanjiv Goenka’s New Rising will shell out close to Rs 16 crore for the Pune team. Both franchises will not be included in the profit sharing model created by Central Revenue Pool. A total of 21 companies bid for the team, with the lowest bid getting selected.
The bidding activity on Tuesday (December 8) that transpired under the aegis of Anurag Thakur, BCCI Secretary and Rajeev Shukla, the IPL Chairmam, witnessed participation from only five of the 21 business houses that had initially purchased BCCI’s Invitation to Tender (ITT) document.
The two new franchises will replace Chennai Super Kings and the Rajasthan Royals, suspended by the Justice RM Lodha-led commission for their involvement in the 2013 IPL spot-fixing scandal, for a period of two years (2016-2017).
