Rio 2016: Sania still remains confident about medal chances after doubles loss

Meanwhile, this Tennis legend has face defeat in the first round of mixed double for India in Olympics. Sania along with his partner Prarthana Thombare lost the match against the Shuai Peng-Shuai Zhang by 7-6 (8-6) 5-7 7-5 in a two-hour 44-minute battle.

Sania in a recent interview told media that ” India always want the medal from me irrespective of whatever game I play. But, it’s a sport and there is no guarantee of anything as the player wins the games and we can only try to give our best”.

Sania also defended her teammate Thombare after the tough loss as he told media wing ” stop attacking her, she has nothing to do with a loss and she is 190 in the world. And the guys against which we lost match are in top 50. It is complete understood, that Thombare played against the against the people who are the best in the world. Don’t be so hard on her. We can only try and rest is in the hands of destiny. An Athlete can only give his 100 percent, but sometimes you need to accept that your opponent must have played the brilliant game and that’s why they won the match.”

Sania also mentioned that Thombare is inexperience and she has a lot to learn and this is Olympics and winning here is not a cup of tea.

Thombare in her recent interaction with the media told that “It was a great experience for me. I got to learn a lot today. It was a great match I wish I could help her (Sania) out a bit more,”

Meanwhile, when Sania was asked about the present of the Indian batting Legend Sachin Tendulkar in her match as former Indian batsman is the fan of Sania Mirza.

Sania showed her happiness by quoting ” He is our goodwill ambassador for the Olympics. I am honored. It is so good for him to come and watch. Hope he is here for a few more days to watch a bit more tennis.”

Sania also congratulated Leander Paes as he played his last Olympics. Now, Sania Mirza will join hand with the Rohan Bopanna for her next mixed doubles and she is confident about winning the medal in the next encounter.
