The closing ceremony was more colorful than the previous one and the spectacular view of the ceremony was just like a spellbound. International Olympic Committee chief Thomas Bach said,
“These were a marvellous Olympics, in a marvellous city,”
He further added
“Over the last 16 days a united Brazil inspired the world, in difficult times for all of us, with its irresistible joy for life.”
Bach formally finished the battle, after a span of 16 days of the games that witnessed the participation of 11,303 athletes from 206 nations, a refugee team and numerous audience across the world.
When Japan’s PM Shinzo Abe joined the stadium donned as extremely popular computer game’s character Super Mario, the moment was captured as one of the cherished moment of the event.
The caption of Women’s hockey team- Kate Richardson-Walsh hoisted the flag of Great Britain. This team is the one that finished the Olympics Journey with 67 medals and reached the top for their highest tally at an overseas Olympics.
Earlier, Joe Joyce – Super-heavyweight boxer had won Britain’s final of Rio 2016 – a silver medal for finishing second in the medal table to the United States, following China.
Tokyo’s is the Next Venue
At the end of the closing, a tree grew from the ground to symbolize the rebirth of the games. This was the way that symbolizes handover of the Olympic flag to Tokyo. Rio mayor Eduardo Paes handed it to IOC president Bach, instead to pass it to Tokyo governor Yuriko Koike.
The next event of Olympics will take place in Tokyo in 2020.
