Sarpreet first Indian-origin player to play for Bayern Munich

Sarpreet Singh has now created a history after becoming the first Indian origin player to play in the Bundesliga on Saturday when he made his Bayern Munich first appearance against Werder Bremen. On the other hand, Bayern also won the match with the great 6-1 score, following the exploits of Philippe Coutinho, who scored a hat-trick, Robert Lewandowski and Thomas Muller.

He is the second New Zealander to play in the Bundesliga and he just came in for Coutinho in the final eight minutes of the remaining match.

Sarpreet Singh, who is just 20-year-old, joined Bayern in the summer from Wellington Phoenix in Australia’s A-League. On the top of that, his performance in the A-League was remarkable, urging the German champions to sign him for the period of the summer.

The New Zealand-born also arrived at the Allianz Arena from A-League side Wellington Phoenix previous summer and might possibly make his official senior-team first appearance after astonishing through the ranks with FC Bayern’s reserve side.

Earlier, Sarpreet has also played in India when he was part of New Zealand’s squad in Intercontinental Cup for the year 2018.

He has also scored his first goal against Kenya at the Mumbai Football Arena for the All Whites before playing against the likes of Sunil Chhetri while facing India.

Later, New Zealand finished second runners-up in the invitational tournament and the tournament was won by hosts India.

Coming to the present match, Kingsley Coman as well as Corentin Tolisso was ruled out because of the injury, and Javi Martinez was suspended, then Singh was named on the bench and was afterward called in for Coutinho in the last few minutes of the remaining game.
