In Bareilly district, Uttar Pradesh, a 14-year-old pregnant rape victim was refused medical tests and made to wait for over 3 hours at a government hospital because doctors were busy. She had sought an abortion.
The father of girl said in a report that we were asked to wait outside the office of CMO for 3 hours at Maharana Pratap hospital on Tuesday, but, in the evening they told us to come back on Thursday.
As per the report of HT, the rape victim girl is 32 weeks pregnant and after the confirmation of the doctor, the pregnancy termination laws allow abortion.
CMO Vijay Yadav said that the case of the girl could not be taken up as he was busy with tehsil diwas. The father of the victim girl complained that Yadav did not even ask his doctors to start the tests.
The girl was repeatedly raped by a man who promised to marry her but abandoned her when she got pregnant, according to the family.
Earlier in this case, a fast track and lower court had denied permission to aborttion, after which the family approached High Court. The Allahabad High Court on 29th August asked the father of the girl to file an application before the CMO of the hospital. The CMO will take appropriate decision in this case.
An ultrasound examination will help doctors to assess her medical condition and then arrive at a decision.
