On Tuesday, an earthquake of low intensity measuring 5.7 on the Richter Scale hit Tripura. As per the National Centre for Seismology, the epicentre of the earthquake was in Dhalai district in the north-eastern state.
The department said that the 5.7-magnitude earthquake hit the region at 14:39 hrs. The epicentre was located at a depth of 28 km in the district.
As per the United States Geological Survey that the magnitude of the earthquake was 5.5. The US Geological Survey said that the earthquake had the epicentre in Ambassa, Tripura.
The mild tremors were felt in Meghalaya and Assam too. No damage to life or property was immediately reported.
Many people got panic and ran out of their homes and shops, as the tremor hit the region.
