Singapore’s National Day 2016: President of India greets Tony Tan Keng Yam

Singapore celebrates the National Day on 9th August every year. On Monday, President of India Pranab Mukherjee  extended greetings to the government and the people of Singapore on their National Day.

President said that there was a vast potential in the sectors like infrastructure development and Defence between the India and Singapore.

In his message to Singapore President Tony Tan Keng Yam, the President Mukherjee said that On the behalf of the government of India and its people and on my own behalf, it is with great pleasure that I extend warm felicitations and greetings to you and to the people of Singapore on your National Day, today.

The President of India said that bilateral relations between Singapore and India are marked by a long tradition of close cooperation.

National Day of Singapore

The National Day of Singapore celebrates its independence from Malaysia in 1965.

The National Day of Singapore is celebrated every year on 9th August, in memorialization of the Independence of Singapore from Malaysia in the year 1965. This holiday features a National Day Parade. The Prime minister of Singapore addresses the people of Singapore on National Day and after it, the fireworks celebrations.

The National Day Parade of Singapore is a national ceremony that is usually held at the National Stadium or the Padang.

In 2007 for the first time, the National Day of Singapore was held at The float at Marina Bay instead of the National Stadium. This arrangement was maintained until the new sports hub was opened in April 2014.
