Fossil fuels might not be running out anytime soon but the automotive industry is already looking for more eco-friendly alternatives. One of them is the electric car, an industry spearheaded by Palo Alto-based cat manufacturer Tesla. Tesla has managed what many other car manufacturers have failed to do – it made the electric car attractive. Its first model was the Tesla Roadster, a super-fast sports car with an electric motor, followed by the Model S, the Model X SUV, and the Model 3 – each one a bit cheaper than the previous. As new models were rolled out, they were improved both when it comes to their mileage, their functions, and their features. Among them, the “autopilot” which lets you read, watch movies or the best casino promotions at Red Flush Canada online while the car drives for you. And its cars are becoming more popular than ever.
While Tesla improved the reputation of the electric car continuously since its first model was launched, it has also proven that it is a match for traditional cars, even supercars. Comparing specifications is one thing, but seeing the cars actually race each other on a track is another. So Motor Trends has decided to settle all debates once and for all by organizing the “World’s Greatest Drag Race”. This year, the competition was at its seventh annual edition, with 12 supercars lining up for drag racing: Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio, Aston Martin DB11, Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE, Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport, Ferrari 488 GTB, Lexus LC500, McLaren 570GT, Mercedes-AMG GT R, Nissan GT-R Nismo, Porsche 718 Cayman S, Porsche 911 Turbo S – and a 2017 Tesla Model S P100D.
No spoilers for you – here is the video of the event:
The 2017 Model S P100D is the best-endowed model in the series. Its almost $200,000 price will buy you a car that goes from zero to 100 km/h in 2.7 seconds and a top speed of 250 km/h, electric all-wheel drive, full self-driving hardware, and “Ludicrous mode” that enables it to accelerate and ride like a supercar. And a supercar it is, too – in the World’s Greatest Drag Race, it has beaten all of its opponents, even if by a fraction of a second.
Electric cars are not only a trend – they are the responsible choice for the environment and the economical choice for your pockets. And, as you can see, they offer a no-compromise way to do what’s right for our future while not giving up the experience of driving a car at an amazing speed.
