Two big release of the year 2015 Dilwale and Bajirao Mastani. Both the films gave tough competition to each other on the battle of box office. Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Dilwale’ and Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh’s ‘Bajirao Mastani’ are performing well at the box office. With both going strong eversince they released on December 18, the weekend numbers seem to bring in good business.

On the other hand, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum opus ‘Bajirao Matani’ starring Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Priyanka Chopra has been getting outstanding figures and has picked up pace thanks to good word of mouth. Here is a day-wise break up of Dilwale and Bajirao Mastani from the day of its release till now.
Expectations were sky high from both of big releases – Rohit Shetty’s “Dilwale” starring Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon and Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s “Bajirao Mastani” with Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra.
Dilwale opened better to an occupancy of 70 per cent while Bajirao Mastani opened at 30 per cent.
Bajirao Mastani showcases a historical romantic flick, and it is blessed with some impeccable visuals.Cinematography of the movie has played a crucial role in determining the success of this movie.
‘Unko dikha denge‘ (We’ll show them), is a term stars and filmmakers often use about their rivals. Dilwale is clearly one of those misguided products that are meant to display their makers’ muscle power. There is no effort to take the cinema of Shetty and SRK forward in any way. Shah Rukh had said in an interview that his film was for the masses while BM was more ‘niche’.
Dilwale Box Office Collection
On Friday (December 18) Dilwale earned Rs. 8.11 cr while ‘Bajirao Mastani’ earned a 12.25 cr. There was a slight dip in the collections of the movie on Saturday (December 26) which was Rs. 10.30 cr and the Sunday (December 28) collections again went up to Rs. 11.75 cr.
On Monday, the movie grossed Rs. 5.60 cr, Rs. 5.40 cr on Tuesday, Rs 5.05 cr on Wednesday, Rs. 5.35 cr on Thursday and Rs. 7.50 cr on Friday. The total collections of Sanjay Leela Bhansali movie has gone up to Rs. 149.35 cr in India alone.
If Diwale is much worse than one expected, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Bajirao Mastani (BM) is even better than one expected. Sparkling like a polished diamond, every frame of this magnum opus shows a master craftsman at work. In fact for every aspect of Dilwale that is a let down BM has an added ‘W’ to offer.
Bajirao Mastani is earning solid sums internationally including $6.1 million in the U.S., where Dilwale has raked in $4.8 million. However Dilwale has outscored its rival in the UAE with $8.1 million versus $3.5 million, and in the UK with $3 million versus $1.6 million, according to Rentrak. Each has grossed a tad more than $A1 million ($US729,000) in Australia.
Shah Rukh Khan-Kajol starrer “Dilwale” has earned Rs 338.75 crore worldwide since its release, according to the producers. Its India gross is Rs 187.25 crore while overseas gross is Rs 151.50 crore, the Red Chillies Entertainments said in a statement.
This also means that Dilwale has taken a strong lead over Bajirao Mastani, considering Bajirao Mastani’s overall business is around Rs 301 crore gross. Despite having performed much better than Dilwale in the domestic arena, Bajirao Mastani is definitely lagging behind by around Rs 40 crore.
