On Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi acknowledged the thank you note from the US President Donald Trump, stating that India is going to do everything as possible in order to help the humanity to fight against COVID-19 disease.
Trump thanked PM Modi and Indian People for the decision on hydroxychloroquine
PM Modi took Twitter to respond back to Trump’s tweet, he wrote, “Fully agree with you President @realDonaldTrump. Times like these bring friends closer. The India-US partnership is stronger than ever. India shall do everything possible to help humanity’s fight against COVID-19. We shall win this together,”
On Wednesday, Trump had praised PM Modi as well as the Indian people on Twitter, responding to the decision of Indian government in order to ease the restrictions on export of anti-malarial drug hydroxychloroquine. Trump also said that this would be a game-changer battling against coronavirus pandemic.
The US President had said in his tweet, “Extraordinary times require even closer cooperation between friends. Thank you India and the Indian people for the decision on HCQ. Will not be forgotten! Thank you Prime Minister @NarendraModi for your strong leadership in helping not just India, but humanity, in this fight!”
On Saturday, Trump, during a phone call had also asked PM Modi for lifting the hold on American order of the anti-malarial drug, of which the major producer of this is India. On Trump request, India, on Tuesday, lifted the hold.
By Wednesday night, more than 14,600 Americans lost their lives because of coronavirus and also more than 4.3 lakh people have tested positive for this deadly disease. On the other hand, Scientists along with medical fraternity are racing against time in order to find a vaccine or any kind of therapeutic solution to this virus.
In the meantime, India is considered to be the largest manufacturer of hydroxychloroquine in the world, which produce about 70 per cent of the world’s supply. The demand for this drug, which is also used by the rheumatoid arthritis patients, was increased when a small placebo-controlled clinical test in China confirmed that the anti-malarial drug has reduced the time period as well as reduced the severity of cough, fever and also pneumonia in those patients who have mild and moderate symptoms of the disease.
Additionally, India had earlier banned the export of hydroxychloroquine and any other formulation containing it on March 25. But last week, the ban was expanded in order to cover exports from special economic zones, hindering unresolved orders, comprising from the US as well.
