World Cup 2019: Kohli ‘doing fine’ after hurting his thumb during training session

Indian cricket team captain Virat Kohli faces an injury scare ahead of India’s ICC World Cup opening match on June 5 against South Africa. He was attended by team’s physiotherapist Patrick Farhart for a good length of time.

In spite of being hit on his thumb while batting in the nets, Virat Kohli “is doing fine.” As per to team sources, “He got hit while batting but is doing fine. There is nothing to worry as of now.”

Kohli hurt his thumb for the duration of a training session at the Ageas Bowl on Saturday, prompting physiotherapist Patrick Farhat to attend to the Indian skipper.

At first, Farhat was seen using magic spray on the injured finger after which he then applied tape on it. Later, the skipper had his thumb dipped in a glass which was filled with ice as he walked off at the end of India’s training session.

Team India is considered to be one of the favourites for the title, was hit by injuries in the run up to the World Cup.

While all-rounder Vijay Shankar after hurting his elbow had to stay out of the warm-up match against New Zealand, Kedar Jadhav is still on the road to recovery from a shoulder injury he picked up for the duration of IPL and missed India’s both warm-up games against the Kiwis as well as Bangladesh.

Jadhav, who is a major figure in India’s middle-order, batted in the nets on Saturday, which also shows an indication that he may possibly be fit in time for the game against South Africa. The Indian team also had an off day on Sunday.

Under the leadership and captaincy of Virat Kohli from past few years, the performances of team India has been remarkable. Indian Cricket Team has been winning the recently held series in Australia and New Zealand. India had also experienced a brilliant 2018 with ODI wins in South Africa (5-1), and West Indies (3-1) and also the Asia Cup title in the UAE.

Match 1:

India vs South Africa

The first match of India is going to be held on 5th June, 2019. This match is going to be 8th fixture of the tournament.  The match will held in Rose Bowl, Southampton at 3:00 pm IST.

After this, Match 2 of team India will be against team Australia, which is going to be held on 9th June, 2019. This match is going to be 14th fixture of the tournament. The competition will held at Kennington Oval, London at 3:00 PM IST.
