It is the day when Jesus celebrated his final Passover with his disciples. This celebration marks the commandment of Jesus Christ to his disciples that they should love one another as Jesus has loved everyone. It was the last supper of Jesus Christ therein he shared his meal with his disciples in an upper room in Jerusalem.

The term Maundy is expressed to be derived from a Roman phrase “Mandatum novum do vobis.” Mandatum novum do vobis is recited in Churches. As far as the meaning of “Mandatum novum do vobis” is discussed, it translates to “a new commandment I give to you. Maundy Thursday is a holy Thursday in most European countries. Maundy Thursday is also known as Green Thursday and Sheer Thursday. Sheer Thursday refers to the ceremonial washing of alters on the Thursday before Good Friday.

How is the Maundy Thursday celebrated?

On this day, Pope washes and kisses the feet of 12 members of the church as a tradition. In the UK, the queen helps deserving senior citizens by giving them coins called Maundy money.
