Woman set ablaze for resisting rape by husband’s cousin in Chhattisgarh

Korba: On Friday, a 30-year-old woman died after she was set on fire by the relative of her husband for resisting rape in Korba district, Chhattisgarh.

The Urga Police SHO MM Minj said that the incident occurred last morning in Urga police station area, when Ramesh Patel (25) who is the cousin of the victim’s husband tried to force rape her when nobody was present at home.

But when the woman fought back, Patel thrashed her before dousing her in kerosene and setting her fire.

The neighbours, on hearing her screams, rushed to her house and admitted her to a local hospital with around 70% burns.

SHO of the Urga Police station said that we managed to record her statement before she died last evening.

The police said that Patel had tried to rape the woman on 22nd February as well but beat a retreat after she warded him off. Patel is a native of Madwarani village.

In this connection, a case has been registered against the accused and efforts are on to arrest the absconding accused.
